I love Frida Kahlo. She is a great inspiration and a reminder to keep making art and following your heart no matter what. Kahlo was in a terrible bus accident as a teen that left her in great pain for the rest of her life. Despite her chronic pain, she continued making art, sometimes even in her hospital bed. She became one of the most influential artists in art history. A reminder to us all to stay strong and true to ourselves.
I placed her hummingbird self portrait in my “thorns frame”. This frame was sculpted inspired by feminine rage. Kahlo was never a conventional woman. She fought gender norms, wore men’s clothes, loved men and women. She lived her life in her truest form.
